ABMC Transfer (Strokes & Non-Strokes)

  • Call 224-299-9700 and tell them you would like to setup a transfer to ABMC.

    • The might ask for the pt info and talk to the doctor. 




Downtime

  1. For scanning during downtime, make copies of each paper, scanning will be completed when back online

  2. There is a downtime folder in the Paper Room Shared Drive

  3. Other downtime forms are located in the cabinets across from the "A" side Crash Carts. 




ENT Referrals / Transfers To NCH

  1. Call 847-618-4430 and page the on-call ENT for NCH. The ED Doc will talk to the ENT to determine if the patient can be transferred.

  2. Once the ENT and ED Doc give the OK for the transfer, Call 847-618-7990 to setup the transfer. 

  • Their Fax number is 847-618-7998

Monday–Friday

Paging Cardiology / CVA / Ascension Cardiology

  • Type in Dr. Aggarwal and send the page to whoever is on-call for him

    • It will usually be a PA or NP



Paging CATH Lab  (NON-URGENT/NON-STEMI ONLY)

  1. ASK NURSING SUPERVISOR TO CALL THEM FOR YOU.


NOTE* THIS IS ONLY FOR NON-EMGERGENT & NON-STEMI CALLS FOR CATH LAB. FOR STEMI, PAGE THEM USING STEMI BINDER!!




Paging Chaplain

From 6AM – 8PM (Day Shift)

Primary Method: PerfectServe → Use Group “Spiritual Care Chaplain – SAMC”

Secondary Method: Vocera → Say “Call Chaplain”


From 8PM – 6AM (Night Shift)

Only Contact through PerfectServe → Use Group “Spiritual Care Chaplain – SAMC”




Paging ICU Intensivist

    • If Doc asks for ICU or ICU Intensivist then you just call up to ICU and ask them who the Intensivist is. 

 

OR


  • Call the ICU Intensivist's cell phone at 224-213-3478.




Paging Interventional Radiology

  • From 7a-3p (days) call extension x6533

  • From 3p-7a (evenings and overnight) call Operator at extension "0"


NOTE* IF NOBODY AT ALL IS ANSWERING, YOU MAY BE ABLE TO PAGE/CALL DR. SULA


Paging Nuclear Medicine / MRI

  1. Look in in the Imaging on call schedule

    • The binder should be in the secretary drawer where the other alert binders are. (It is the black binder)

  2. MRI

    • DO NOT CALL MRI UNTIL THE MRI SCREENING FORM IS SIGNED AND FAXED

    • Know what type of MRI they need

      1. Also know if anything was marked YES on screening form

  3. NUCLEAR MED

    • Know their weight

    • Know what type of scan




Paging Pulmonary/Pulmonology

    • If Doc asks for Pulmonary or Pulmonology, most nights we don't have coverage.

    • Ask Doc is they are okay with us paging Dr. Bikash Bhattarai

      1. If they are okay with it, call Dr. Bhattarai's cell phone as he is not going to respond to pages because he isn't officially on call.

  • Call the Operator and ask them to page them for you.

Printing / Copying a Patient Chart

  1. Open chart and write down patient's FIN number.

  2. Report request (AT THE TOP, WHERE THE SPECIMEN COLLECTION BUTTON IS)

  3. Enter FIN

  4. Click the latest visit (at the top of the list)

  5. Under Event Status, select All Results instead of Verified Only

  6. Towards the bottom of the screen, select AHS Abstract in the drop down menu

  7. On the right side of the screen, select "Further Medical Care" in the "Purpose" dropdown. 

  8. In the "Send to" section in the bottom right of the screen, enter the printer name. (Behind "A" side Doc Printer name is SAEDM1P11)

  9. Click "Send Report" 

  10. That's it!




Provider Not Returning Page Protocol

  • If paging a doc and they aren’t responding even after 3 pages.

    • Call their cell phone first, check the Rolodex

    • Tell Charge, you will most likely contact Nursing Supervisor. 



    • If any doc is admitting under themselves (PCPs), pt goes to SCP

    • If any specialty docs aren’t responding, call nursing supervisor, let charge know, let the ER doc know.




Transfer to Non-Ascension Facility

If an out of network transfer is required, the Ascension Transfer Center can coordinate with receiving facilities to establish acceptance and placement. 


To request a transfer to a Non-Ascension Facility, please call the Transfer Center at 224-299-9700. 




Vision Radiology Normal Reads (Get Update on Progress)

  1. Call (510) 683-9500

  2. “Hi, I’m calling from SAMC ED. I was looking to get an update on when a [CT] was going to be read for a patient.”

  3. “The patient's last name is…, the patient’s first name is…”

  4. They will give you an estimated completion time or they will tell you that the Radiologist is going to read it now. 

  5. That’s it. Hang up.




Vision Radiology STAT Reads (Critical Patient Results)

  1. Call (510) 683-9500

  2. “Hi, I’m calling from SAMC ED. I need a STAT read on patient”

  3. “The patient's last name is…, the patient’s first name is…”

  4. They will tell you that the radiologist is going to read it right away. 

  5. That’s it. Hang up.
